Do I need to flush the system when fitting a used compressor?

Accepted Answer

Yes — always. When a compressor fails internally it sends metal debris (‘black death’) through the condenser, receiver-drier and lines. Fit a used compressor onto a contaminated system and it will fail again within weeks. A proper job means flushing the condenser and lines, replacing the receiver-drier or accumulator and the expansion valve, adding the correct PAG oil volume, then vacuuming and regassing. We can quote the compressor plus a matched condenser and drier from the same donor so your aircon shop does one clean job.

My Kia aircon blows warm — is it definitely the compressor?

Accepted Answer

Not always. Warm air is most often simply low refrigerant from a slow leak — get the system pressure-tested first. If the clutch is not engaging it could be a blown fuse, a failed pressure switch, a wiring fault, or a compressor whose clutch coil has burnt out. A seized compressor (belt squeal, no rotation) or one that is noisy and passing debris does need replacing. We will always suggest a proper diagnosis before you spend on a compressor.
