Three options, cheapest first: (1) a forced regeneration on a diagnostic scan tool if the soot load is still below the recovery threshold; (2) a professional ultrasonic DPF clean (around R3,000–R5,000) if the substrate is intact; or (3) a tested used replacement DPF from our yard if the core is cracked or the ash load is terminal. The right call depends on your mileage and why it blocked in the first place — a failed EGR or turbo will re-block a new DPF within months, so we always ask what triggered it before quoting.

Why did my Kia DPF block in the first place?

A DPF regenerates by burning off soot at highway temperatures — so short, stop-start town driving is the number-one cause of a blocked filter, because the engine never gets hot enough to complete a regen. Beyond that, a leaking EGR cooler (common on the D4HB 2.2), a collapsing turbo dumping oil into the exhaust, a faulty exhaust-gas-temperature sensor, or repeatedly interrupted regen cycles all accelerate blockage. Fix the root cause when you replace the DPF or the new one blocks just as fast.
